A well-preserved and scarce example of a Baden enlisted man’s pickelhaube, dated 1916 and stamped with the large size mark ‘58’. Constructed from strong black leather, the helmet retains its shape well, with both front and rear peaks firmly attached—though showing some expected creasing from service use. All fittings are in field grey, including the back strap, removable spike, circular spike base (noting one field grey fixing stud is absent), front peak trim, and buckle fittings. The large griffin-style Baden wappen remains firmly affixed.
Fitted with the correct national and Baden state cockades, the helmet also unusually displays no kinking to the front peak trim. Internally, it retains its full 10-tongued leather liner—entirely intact, though with minor splitting at the tips of some tongues. Clearly stamped ‘58’ in two places and marked ‘B.A.XIV’ for Army Group 14, along with the year ‘1916’. A solid, complete example of a late-war Baden helmet.
