This is a well-preserved example of a Prussian reserve infantry officer's spiked helmet, complete with its original field cover. The leather skull remains in good order with only minor creasing consistent with its service life, and both the front and rear peaks are firmly attached to the main body.
The helmet features gilt fittings throughout. The front plate consists of the Prussian eagle with a cut-out crown and the reserve officer's cross positioned upon the breast. The helmet is fitted with infantry-style flat chin scales and officer-quality national and Prussian State cockades. To the interior, the officer-grade leather liner with scalloped edges shows evidence of considerable use, and the inner silk lining remains present. A pencilled size of 56 1/2 is visible, alongside faint traces of an original owner's name applied to the sweatband.
Included with the helmet is its officer's field cover, which is marked D.R.P. on the interior of the rear peak section.
