A superb and visually rich example of the Model 1880 ceremonial presentation piece; attributed to the elite Guard Kuirassier Regiment. This early pre-WWI item remains in exceptional condition, featuring a finely preserved 97.5cm polished central element, with decorative blue panels etched to the front. The central inscription reads ‘Guard Kuirassier Regiment’, flanked by smaller matching panels. The reverse side bears an extended etched scene depicting cavalry figures in formation, framed by delicate floriated detailing.

Numbered ‘1’ over ‘139’ on the main element and again on the period black-painted casing; the two components remain correctly matched. The casing retains over 50% of its original finish and exhibits no denting or distortion. It features the correct single-ring carrying fixture dated ‘1896’, consistent with known Guard Kuirassier patterns. The reverse flat bears the retailer’s mark; ‘W. Rohde, Berlin’.

The three-bar hilt is constructed from a finely toned brass alloy, showing no damage or repairs. The grip is covered in traditional sharkskin material; fully intact and complete with all grip wire present. This is an increasingly difficult type to source in this condition, making it an ideal pairing for collectors already holding a Guard Kuirassier or Guard du Corps helmet.
