German 1870 Iron Cross

A rare First Class Iron Cross from the 1870 Franco-Prussian War. This convex example is in generally good condition, with the black finish to the central core appearing to have been retouched. All other details remain clear and well defined. Fitted with its original semi-wide tapering pin, hook and hinge. With only an estimated 1,200 First Class awards issued during the war, this is a highly scarce decoration.
