FIELD MARSHALL BERNARD LAW MONTGOMERY SIGNATURE - BELOW PHOTOGRAPH

A large-format photograph measuring 21cm x 16cm of the soccer team of Bernard Law Montgomery’s school. Printed above the photograph is the date ‘1906’; the team is seated and standing with a cup. Just below are printed all the names of the team members, including ‘B.L. Montgomery, Captain’. Montgomery was created Montgomery of Alamein in 1946; therefore, he has signed this photograph post-46.  A highly unusual early photograph of Montgomery, pen-signed. One right-hand corner of the mount is missing, the other broken but adhered with Sellotape. A small label adhered to the outer covering reads ‘St. Paul’s School, London Soccer Team.’
