A very good M1902 tunic belonging to a member of the Canadian Engineers. Attached to the tunic is the Honourable Service World War I badge to Canada, individually numbered 79940, which has been identified to Robert Henshaw, born June 1889. Henshaw enlisted in September 1914 with the 5th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF), and arrived in France in February 1915 as part of the First Canadian Division. He served with the Canadian Engineers, 1st and 2nd Field Companies, and was wounded in the head near Hill 70 close to Loos. He was discharged in February 1919 as unfit for further service.

The tunic features blue Engineer shoulder patches with brass Canada titles, Canadian Engineers collar badges, and standard Canadian buttons. Interior markings read “114 over WD” with the broad arrow and “L” below. The cloth nap shows thinning, with corporal’s stripes to both sleeves, two wound stripes, and overseas service stripes to the opposite arm. One moth hole is present on the right sleeve, and two smaller moth holes near the upper right pocket. It is believed Henshaw was awarded the Military Medal, though this has not been officially confirmed.
