Great War Period Cuff Rank Tunics of Major Robert Walter Purvis, 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders.
Early post 1905 khaki wool officers' highland cut away doublet tunic with early twist cord shoulder straps. Majors rank a crown on the cuff. QSA medal ribbon above the breast pocket and regimental tunic buttons. Officer cloth lining to the interior. 
1905 period officers' cuff rank tunic with plain domed buttons for service in the Hussar regiment. Twist cord shoulder straps and captain's three rank pips to the cuffs. QSA medal ribbon above the breast pocket. Unlined interior to the tunic, but with white lining to the interior of the arms. Tailor's label to the inside collar with inked name and rank.
1903 dated officers' cuff rank four pocket tunic with the rank of captain. Hussar pattern plain brass domed tunic buttons. QSA medal ribbon above the breast pocket. Twist cord shoulder boards. Partially lined collar with tailors label having an inked name.
1917 type shoulder rank tunic, converted from cuff rank. Produced in heavy khaki wool. Gordon Highlanders regimental tunic buttons to the front. Majors rank a crown to the shoulder straps. Grey cloth lining to the interior of the tunic. 
All tunics show service wear, with some having some moth damage and staining. An interesting complete grouping for this officer. 
Robert Walter Purvis (Robin), was born near St Andrews, Fife. He was commissioned into the South East of Scotland RGA (militia), 2nd Lt 03/07/90, Lt 17/05/92, Capt 19/06/93, he transferred into the newly created Fyfe & Forfar Yeomanry, serving with 6th Btn Imperial Yeomanry in the 2nd Boer War, taking command of the company during action at Hartley’s Nek and being wounded in action at Nooitgedacht and MID. 19/10/01, he was seconded for service in the provisional cavalry and assigned to the 4th Queen's Own Hussars, where he would be a Captain on reserve until 1905. In 1903, he joined the 3rd Btn the Gordon Highlanders, where he remained as Hon major until the end of WW1. He ran, with his brother William Herbert Purvis, a sugar plantation at Kukuihaele in Hawaii.
