BRITISH WWII ROYAL NAVAL CAPTAIN AND ABOVE VISOR CAP

A fabulous condition, probably size 58, although unmarked, blue visor cap. Beautiful quality Melton cloth, standard mohair centre band, the Royal Naval officers' badge multi-constructed in gold bullion, metallic fouled anchor, red velvet cap badge. Standard narrow type patent leather chinstrap. A full complement of gold braid around the peak indicates the rank of Captain and Above. To the interior, the sweatband is all intact. The inner lining is of the pattern of the First World War, having multiple circular stitches. Maker marked ‘Gieves’ in gold block to the centre. The stitching holding the leather sweatband to the main body is slightly loose in the forehead area. This quite often happens as the sweat of the wearer rots the stitching. Faint traces of a set of initials, which appear to be ‘VRSB’, are applied to the leather sweatband. A superb cap.
