BRITISH WWII MERCHANT NAVY OFFICERS VISOR CAP - CAPTAIN AND ABOVE

A scarce cap, very large size. No moth damage, high-quality Melton cloth material, a Merchant Navy officer's badge attached to the mohair centre band. Standard narrow patent chinstrap. A row of bullion lace for Captain and Above rank. Interior sweatband complete with original 7 ¼ size label. Interestingly, the faint remains of the maker's gold blocked to the inner crown but rubbed out hair grease, entitled ‘NAVAL’ then the difficult to read name of the maker, but interestingly from an address in London, Southampton and Liverpool. The majority of Merchant convoys during WWII left and arrived at Liverpool Docks.
