BRITISH WWII HMS ACHILLES SHORTENED CAP TALLY

The scarce cap tally of the light cruiser HMS Achilles. This cap tally came from the same collection as the Graf Spee lifebuoy also featured on this website. The Achilles was one of the three, two light and one heavy cruiser, involved in the action off the mouth of the River Plate in December 1939, which resulted in the scuttling of the pocket battleship Graf Spee. Achilles was damaged in the action. The story of the sinking of the Graf Spee is legendary, with much information available through internet searches. The tally has been shortened on the right-hand side of the lettering.
