A superb example of the 1854 pattern display piece belonging to 2nd Lieutenant David Bernard Morgan of the Welsh Guards. The surface remains in excellent condition, featuring the insignia of the Welsh Guards surmounted by the George V crown, numbered 13798 and retailed by Cater & Company, Pall Mall, London. The initials D.B.M. are finely engraved, confirming its personal attribution.
The regulation Welsh Guards hilt is well preserved with complete ray skin covering, and the nickel scabbard retains both original hanging rings. Morgan was commissioned on 29th May 1918 and was part of the prominent Morgan family of Cardiff, known for owning and operating the city’s major department store. Born in 1899, he later passed in 1955, making this a remarkable piece of regimental and personal history.
