A very atmospheric and well-used First World War Wolsey helmet, showing attractive service patina. The cork exterior is covered with six panels to the rim and six to the crown, complete with its original air vent and chinstrap. Fitted with a thickly wrapped pagri displaying the rectangular Suffolk Regiment unit patch. The interior features a green-lined rim and canvas-lined bowl. The original wearer has hand-applied at least twelve names of Indian cities and towns where he served, along with the WWI style service number ‘SA 6368’. The leather sweatband is complete, soft, and supple, with only minor light rot to the cotton lining of the interior rim.
