One of the finest British WWI Brodie helmets we’ve encountered, this is a rare first pattern rimless War Department example. A small area of the original green paint finish remains visible, with faint traces of yellow—suggesting an early camouflage scheme. The helmet was later overpainted in dark green and bears a stencilled Machine Gun Corps insignia.

On the left side is the faint outline of a previous unit’s triangular flash beneath the black paint, and on the right, remnants of a rectangular flash from another former designation. The skull shows overall rust bleed and minor chipping to the black finish, clearly visible in our web images.

Internally, it retains its complete first pattern oilcloth liner with trench mud still present, and its strong second pattern brown leather chinstrap. The Machine Gun Corps, formed in 1915 and disbanded in 1922, remains one of the most iconic units of the Great War. An exceptional and evocative trench warfare relic.
