BRITISH WWI AND WWII COLDSTREAM GUARDS IDENTIFIED OFFICERS UNIFORM GROUP

Two 4-pocket khaki uniforms, cut in the Guard style with the Coldstream Guards grouping of buttons. A dress blue high-collar tunic with the same configuration of buttons. A pair of corded riding breeches and a 2  matching pairs of blue with red stripe long straight trousers. One of the tunics has its identifying tailor's label with the very faint remains, but thankfully identifiable name of John Child BRT. On research, we have found that a Major Sir Coles John Child, 2nd Baronet, often referred to as Sir John Child, was a British aristocrat, diplomat and officer in the Coldstream Guards; he lived from February 1906 to May 1971. The internet describes the rank achieved in the Guards as Major; however, this tunic has his rank as a Lieutenant Colonel. We have not been able to ascertain his war record. The tunic with the label is generally in good condition, with no moth damage and good bright gilt to all the Coldstream Guards buttons. The second tunic is cut in the same Guards style and Coldstream Guards configuration of buttons, unnamed, same size as the other tunic. Considerable wear to the three pips on each epaulette denoting the rank of Captain, which are worn through polishing; the tunic does have areas of moth damage. The dress blue tunic has bullion Guards rank pips to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, correct Coldstream Guards configuration of buttons. The tunic does have some moth damage. Dress blue trousers moth-free. Corded khaki breeches with slight surface moth damage. A nice grouping worthy of much further research being identified.
