A classic example of the white cork colonial helmet worn by British enlisted ranks during the late Victorian period, particularly associated with the Anglo-Zulu War era. This well-preserved piece features a four-panel canvas body with white pagri wrap and a screw-in air vent at the crown.
The brass chin chain with leather backing is present and intact, typical of enlisted issue. The original leather liner is complete, though the surface glaze has worn with age. Faint ink issue stamps remain visible to the interior. The helmet retains its correct form, with no damage or extra holes.
This model shares its shape with the home service blue cloth helmet introduced in 1878, as referenced on page 243 of Pith Helmet, Jaunty Hat by C.P. Mills.
A fine and authentic example from Britain’s colonial military history.
