British Boer War Foreign Service Helmet

A very well-preserved example of the all-cork Foreign Service helmet worn by British enlisted men during the South African campaign. The helmet features a white soft Melton cloth covering over the cork body, with a green-lined interior and canvas-lined inner bowl.
Included is the original khaki field service cover and leather chin strap. Inside the helmet are two printed labels reading ‘PART WORN,’ along with faint pencilled names on one of the canvas panels, suggesting use by one or more individuals.
The sweatband remains complete, showing some loss of surface but otherwise intact, with its cork cushion sitting between the liner and green inner lining.
A fine, service-used piece from the Boer War period.
