This is a very well-preserved pair of Victorian-period Hussar officer's dress boots, representing the highest standard of 19th-century bespoke shoemaking. These boots are complete with their gilded spurs and traditional decorative elements, making them an ideal acquisition for completing a period uniform display.
The boots feature gilt trim around the upper collars and the characteristic oval bullion bosses. Over the decades, the gilt has transitioned to a distinguished silvery tone, a characteristic often associated with the specific uniform requirements of a Hussar Line Regiment. The interior of both boots is beautifully decorated with gilt-stamped markings including the Royal Coat of Arms and the Victorian Crown, identifying the maker as Peal & Co, 487 Oxford Street, London, noted as waterproof boot makers for the Royal Family.
The construction remains sound, and the presence of the original spurs adds significant display value. As is typical for historical footwear of this age, these are intended strictly for mannequin or cabinet display and are not suitable for contemporary wear.
