This is a superior pair of Victorian-era officer's boots belonging to a Hussar Line Regiment. The boots are constructed from high-quality leather which remains in excellent condition, showing the refined silhouette and finish expected of high-ranking military footwear from this period.
The decorative gilt lace around the top of each boot has matured to a silvery hue, and both boots retain their original oval Hussar bosses at the front. This set is complete with a pair of white metal spurs. Internally, the boots are clearly marked by the prestigious maker Bartley & Sons, 493 Oxford Street, London. Adding significant historical interest, there is a hand-applied inscription below the maker's stamp identifying the original owner as Broadhurst Esquire, 8th Hussars.
The provenance linked to the 8th (King's Royal Irish) Hussars makes this a particularly desirable set for researchers and collectors of regimental history. As with all footwear of this vintage, these are intended for mannequin or archive display only and are not suitable for modern wear.
