BRITISH VICTORIAN 1871 PATTERN BLACK PLUME

A highly interesting accessory for the 1871 pattern enlisted ranks helmet of either the 1st Dragoon Guards or the 1st Dragoons. When the helmets were supplied to the troopers a wooden block was supplied for creating the crimped pattern in the plume, when not in use the plume was tied by string to this sectionalised wood. The horsehair plume is in black and would be for the previous afore-mentioned two regiments is complete with its plume stem and screw thread fitting. A nice artefact from a Victorian helmet.
