A six-panel white-over-cork officers colonial helmet in generally nice condition from the late 1870s. The cork body is undamaged, with only slight age staining to parts of the cloth covering. The interior features a gilt-blocked maker’s label on green leather to the upper crown, marked “Best London Manufacture.”
The liner follows the British home service pattern used from 1878 to 1911, with a light tan leather band and attached red silk section, two clips for a chin chain, and a large hand-applied name inside the bowl, possibly reading “RF Cotterell.” The same name is also written on the green inner lining at the rear tail of the helmet. A regimental plate was originally fitted but has been removed, leaving three blocked holes.
