This is a rare and highly evocative example of the Austrian Model 1915 field cap, a cornerstone of the Austro-Hungarian soldier's uniform during the Great War. This specific cap is identical in construction to the example illustrated on page 99 of the reference work The Emperor’s Coat in the First World War.

The cap is complete with its original Franz Josef 1st button and features the standard two-button closure for the side curtains. This particular example is rich with character, featuring three distinct memento items pinned to the side. These include a mountain troops edelweiss set upon a green cloth backing, accompanied by a black and white feather traditionally worn on the left-hand side.

The interior retains its original leather sweatband, and the cap is fitted with a field-grey leather crushable peak. The overall construction and the addition of the traditional mountain troop insignia make this a standout piece of headgear. Original Austrian field caps from this period are increasingly difficult to find, especially those that retain their period-applied tradition badges and feathers.
