As is well known among collectors, obtaining original footwear from any of the combatant nations of the Great War is extremely difficult. Most boots were worn until they were exhausted, either during the conflict or in the years following the soldiers' return home. This makes the survival of an original pair a significant find.
This pair of Austrian enlisted ranks boots is in a relatively small size. The leather remains in good order, and the soles and heels are complete with their original iron nails and cleats. Each boot features nine eyelets for lacing. The identification of these boots has been confirmed by a leading specialist collector of Austro-Hungarian and Italian militaria.
These boots represent a primary component of the Austro-Hungarian infantryman's field uniform. They are an essential acquisition for a museum-grade display or a dedicated collector of Central Powers equipment.
