An exceptionally rare Luftwaffe NCO’s or enlisted man’s visor cap, yellow piped, with direct historical links to both Regiment General Göring and the 1st Fallschirmjäger Regiment. The interior of the light tan leather sweatband is clearly marked on one side ‘14. Komp. Regiment Gen. Göring’ and on the opposite side ‘1./Fallsch. Jäger Rgt. 1 4. Komp.’

Regiment General Göring was originally formed from the Landespolizeigruppe General Göring in October 1935. From this elite formation came volunteers who established the first Fallschirmschützen Battalion — the foundation of Germany’s future Luftwaffe paratroopers. By September 1938, this unit had evolved into the 7th Flieger Division and subsequently the 1st Fallschirmjäger Regiment, to which this cap’s owner belonged.

Originally issued in the tellerform style, the cap has been hand-reshaped by its owner into a more desirable semi-saddle form by removing the internal crown wire, allowing for natural side droop and a crushed peak profile. It retains its original early droop-tailed Luftwaffe eagle and matching cockade (now sewn in place after losing its pins). The yellow waffenfarbe piping shows minor moth wear to the upper section of the mohair band and one small nip to the crown.

The leather chinstrap was removed long ago, and the cap shows mild flattening at the rear from long-term storage. Sourced from a home in the United Kingdom, it belonged to a German prisoner of war who settled in Britain after WWII — as many former Luftwaffe paratroopers did.

Size-stamped ‘55½’ to the russet brown lining, with faint traces of the original maker’s mark. The leather sweatband has two tears, and the internal stiffener shows cracking. Despite this, it remains an evocative and historically significant piece — an authentic link between the elite Göring formations and the early German airborne forces.
