german-wwii-hans-volrath-album-1939-41
GERMAN WWII HANS VOLRATH ALBUM 1939-41

Covering the years 1939-41. Pasted to the cover is his Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler enlisted ranks RZM weave cuff title and his Viking enlisted man's RZM cuff title. The inside of the cover is a complete rundown for every month from January 1939 to April 1942 of the different units he served in and the places he served in, which included the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler and Russia. The album opens with a huge format picture in September 1939, which appears to be taken at Lublin in Poland of the officers NCO and men of his unit, followed by a magnificent postcard-size side-on view of Volrath wearing his SS VT uniform with twisted cord collar edging and collar tabs, wearing his M.35 double decal SS helmet. Many further pictures of his friends in the unit, with again another postcard-size image of Volrath now as a junior officer in the SS carrying his SS dagger. Many further images in the field with his artillery regiment. Soldiers on leave in Munich with him identified to the centre of the three soldiers. An image of the Feldherrenhalle in Munich. SS troops sitting on armoured vehicles. Rifle training. As with the other albums in this series, virtually every picture is annotated. Bridge repairs in the field in Holland. More images of Dutch bridges. Battle damage, again Holland. Images of very heavily damaged Rotterdam with German troops driving through. More damage and buildings on fire in Rotterdam. Damaged German JU52 aircraft on the ground. A wonderful shot of an armoured half-track personnel carrier in Holland. Moving on into Belgium with lines of Belgian and French prisoners. Damaged villages in Belgium and then into France with Calais being featured. Graves of German soldiers around Calais and Dunkirk. Operations in the field with canteens, men at rest after action. One shot of a soldier lying asleep with his Adolf Hitler cuff title in view. Damaged French bridges and buildings. Many images of 18-ton half-track vehicles towing artillery pieces. Destroyed small French tanks. Virtually every picture in this album is related to SS troops on the move or in action. A classic picture is found in every German soldier's album of France of their fascination with Colonial troops. An SS officer standing in conversation with an SS NCO with his Adolf Hitler cuff title again in plain view. German officers in staff cars. Eiffel Tower tourist pictures. German soldiers viewing the sights in Paris. The Verdun Memorial. Shots in late 1940 of German soldiers on occupation duties, training. Preparations for Russia in April 1941. July 1941 shots of German tanks on the road in Russia. Battle scenes. Captured Russian prisoners. Ukraine shots. The butchering of animals for the troops. At the very end of the album there is a superb opening map that has been pasted in or was present with the album, indicating this may be a dedicated SS LAH album. When opening the map, it shows the complete route of the march for the SS LAH in the west from the 10th May to the 28th July 1940. A superb album with two cuff titles attached.

Ref; 96914
