The exterior retains all original finish with its army star. Around the lower edge of the helmet can be seen the faint traces of a hand painted line of paint in a very similar but slightly different colour to the rest of the paint finish, this indicated that the helmet which arrived from the factory as a shell only and then was fitted with its separately supplied liner was actually put together in a army facility, the line painted showed that the helmet was now complete and ready for issue. The Japanese Navy had its helmets supplied complete and ready for service; such an overpainted line should not be found on Navy helmets. To the inner rear skirt is the size of the helmet in a single Kanji letter. The liner system is all complete and in good condition, all in a mixture of tan colours. The liners are made from scraps of leather in a triangular fashion from the factory floor, and all different colours. We have been informed that this type of construction of the liner only took place in 1941. Behind the front liner pad, there is an ink block stamped with Japanese characters. The helmet has its original drawstring. The internal liner comprises three individual pads; two of the pads have their inner cushion still fitted, and one has it missing. The neck tie tapes are full length but have been stitched and strengthened in places. An excellent example of the Japanese combat helmet of WWII.

Ref; 95029

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0859/4420/5648/files/DSC_6107_8ae7a609-4785-41d2-a000-393bbe97a613.jpg?v=1760609199
japanese-wwii-assault-shovel-with-cover
JAPANESE WWII ASSAULT SHOVEL WITH COVER

An extremely rare piece of Japanese equipment from WWII is the assault shovel with its long wood haft. This vest has rust marks flooding through from below; all its original 7 closure buttons are still fitted. The vest is adjustable on the sides with canvas straps and buckles for a closer fit to the wearer. We have been advised that this is an issued example and has to be considered extremely rare.

Ref; 97303

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0859/4420/5648/files/DSC_8872_d647a396-7faf-49a1-acfe-18c31b5bf973.jpg?v=1791973148
japanese-wwii-mint-unissued-japanese-type-90-combat-helmet
JAPANESE WWII MINT UNISSUED JAPANESE TYPE 90 COMBAT HELMET

In fabulous condition, totally untouched, with all original brown paint on the exterior shell, with its hand-brushed line that runs around the lower half of the helmet, covering the star and the liner-retaining rivet heads. The reason for this was that the shells were painted first; the liners and their rivet heads and star were assembled after, so that the star and the rivet heads did not have a light steel finish. The final assembler would run a one-brush stroke around the whole circumference of the helmet. These were always of a slightly different shade than the helmets themselves. This particular helmet is a fabulous colour with its untouched inner three-pad liner and drawstring, with the remains of Japanese paperwork adhered to one of the liner sections, with all its original chin tapes. The interior of the front liner pad has kanji markings on the canvas, also a kanji, possibly a size marking hand-applied to the inner rear skirt. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to find a better unissued version of a Japanese Type 90 helmet.

Ref; 97306
