Heinz Krey was born in Wiesbaden in December 1921 and was killed on the 23rd May 1943 in the middle of the North Atlantic. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross on the 4th September 1943. This beautiful painting, completed in oil on board, shows Krey three-quarter length wearing his Kriegsmarine officer's uniform. It has recently appeared on the collectors market from the Wiesbaden area and was in the possession of his family from WWII until today. The painting, which we image was executed as a memorial to him on the instruction of his family was painted after his death, it is signed and dated ‘Griessler 1943’, it shows Heinz Krey standing with a plain background wearing his naval junior officers visor cap, Knights Cross at neck, awards worn include the Iron Cross 1st class, the Kriegsmarine Minesweeper Badge and the Kriegsmarine Submarine Badge with the ribbon of the Iron Cross 2nd class to the upper buttonhole of his tunic. He is holding a pair of gloves in his right hand and has his left hand on his Kriegsmarine officer's dagger. The painting is in a plain battleship grey wood frame, which is extremely typical of the period. In over 35 years of handling military artefacts, which involve many items of the Third Reich, we have never been able to obtain or even seen a submariners Knights Cross officers painting as good as this, it is quite an interesting fact that with the huge amount of artists available in Germany and with it being well within the culture how very few good paintings are seen of WWII famous personalities. This painting would be an excellent backdrop to any collection of either the Kriegsmarine or the submarine base. Krey entered the Kriegsmarine in December 1939 as an engineer officer cadet. He went through various training units and in May 1940, was an officer cadet. Krey’s U-Boat career was with two boats, U-703, in which he did two patrols totalling 45 days and U-752 again two patrols with a total of 68 days. He was an engineer officer on U-703 and was Chief Engineer on U-752. In May 1943 a British Fairy Swordfish aircraft attacked the U-Boat, killed the Commander and some of the men on the conning tower, Leutnant Krey took over the command and ordered all men to abandon the U-Boat because two British destroyers arrived quickly and tried to capture the boat, Heinz Krey set the explosive charges and blew up the boat, he went down with the submarine losing his life, for that outstanding and unselfish fete he was posthumously awarded the Knights Cross, he was 21 years and 6 months old.

Ref; 83470

The rare model of the HJ/DJ banner top stop is clearly shown on page 250 of the HJ volume 2 by John R Angolia. The figure was introduced in 1936, as shown in the 1936 catalogue. Approximate production numbers were 93 for the total white versions produced between1938/39. The mountain stag is heavily detailed and impressive. In the work Allach Porcelain 36-45 by Dennis R. Porell Dennis describes that the antlers are removable and the item pictured in the afore-mentioned work on page 386 does appear to have antlers that were applied after the main body was finished, on our example the join of the antlers to the main body is nowhere near as distinct and is very finely finished in the join area. There is no damage in any place or any replacement parts on our mountain stag. The SS Porcelain Works at Allach on the edges of the town of Dachau and next to the concentration camp was created by Heinrich Himmler's SS to create by the finest artisans in Germany, beautiful pieces of white and coloured porcelain. The binding is unusual for a book of such quality; the 13 beautifully illustrated colour plates, accompanied by pages of text, are placed within the cover, punch-holed, then held together with cord, 13 prints show every different aspect of uniforms within the German Ordnungs Polizei, beginning with the carrying of the police standard and ending with the police officers standing together. Any postcards, books or ephemera of Willrich are strongly collected; the first book published in 1939 was published by the Border and Overseas Publishing House, presumably to promote the art of the Third Reich overseas. There is a stamp on the inside of the page belonging to the Library of the Ostland Organisation. There is also an ink stamp placed on the 2nd page of the Library of the collection of the post-war collector Francis Catella of France. The first 40 pages of the book contain much text plus some prints of Willrich's work. The remainder of the book, which contains 48 full-page reproduced works of Willrich, both in colour, sepia and black and white, consists mostly of civil figures wearing both national costume or peasant dress. The second book is with a soft cover, published in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1949, all in German, with many patriotic images of a similar nature to the first and larger book. In each image, there is much text explaining the image, and many military. The last two pages is the life story of Wolfgang Willrich, interesting in that in this early post-war period in South America the image and the ideals of the Third Reich were still strong. The third book, a rather large publication is publication is published by the NSDAP in 1939, is all text and is entitled ‘WOMEN AND MOTHER OF THE PEOPLE’, it is published by Rudolf Hess with a foreward by Dr.Robert Ley and Alfred Rosenberg.

Ref; 90571

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0859/4420/5648/files/DSC_2656_9359ed2f-5ef1-4812-9701-e906a08f1b43.jpg?v=1768480294
german-wwii-naval-document-and-photo-grouping
GERMAN WWII GRAF SPEE SAILORS DOCUMENTS

An interesting small group of documents to a shoemaker ‘Franz Golgat’, also spelt on other documents ‘Golgert’. The 1934 issued 1914-18 Honour Cross Citation to Franz Golgert whilst a member of the liner ship Schleswig-Holstein. Accompanying the three citations are a small quantity, 34 small-format images of his life in the Kriegsmarine, accompanied by approximately 10 postcard-sized photographs, some from WWI, which indicates he was probably an older member of the services by being awarded the 1934 War Honour Cross. We have researched his name on the crew list for the Graf Spee as of the date of the River Plate in December 1939 and cannot find his name, it is possible that he left the ship before the Battle of the River Plate, which is unusual as the citations are dated both October and November 1939 whilst the ship was on its South Atlantic mission.

Ref; 95752

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0859/4420/5648/files/DSC_2804_44775e50-3842-43e3-af30-11f9de2ad590.jpg?v=1768819314
german-wwii-army-infantry-grenadier-regiment-citation-group
GERMAN WWII ARMY INFANTRY GRENADIER REGIMENT CITATION GROUP

A nice small group awarded to Unteroffizier Josef Musiol of the 6th Company, 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Grenadier Regiment, 18th Infantry Division.
