Excellent tight fit to the beret base. The oilskin is in nice, bright condition with its silk-woven label of ‘G.A.Hoffmann, Berlin SW29’. After 50 years in business, we have obtained an item that we have never had in our inventory before, a Luftwaffe officer's visor cap with its removable white cover (these are generally available), but this example is with its ultra-rare removable blue cover. A large size cap, stamped size ‘59’ to the inner tan leather sweatband with its removable top in the standard grained fabric, slight age discolouration with its removable heavy silver wire woven eagle on a white felt background, this is pinned in three places to the removable cover. Standard mohair officers centre band, matching wire woven national cockade and officers cap cords. Standard pebbled side buttons. The peak is of the generally encountered ribbed edge for Luftwaffe officers, with some slight crazing to the peak itself. To the interior, the already mentioned mid tan leather sweatband with its white rayon interior, with an unbroken celluloid lozenge with the gold blocked name of ‘Max Lindner Uniform Fabrik Munich’ with telephone number. Accompanying the cap is the removable blue Luftwaffe officers top with silver waffenfarbe to the crown, as on standard Luftwaffe officers caps, matching heavy bullion eagle hand sewn. The interior, rather heavyweight rayon lining has discoloured overall with an unbroken centre celluloid lozenge with a different maker than the cap body itself, the maker is ‘Ferd.Matt Mutzen Uniformmutzen Germershein’. Pink waffenfarbe in a V shape around the central bullion wire cockade. The correct Bevo silver wire eagle appears to have been applied to a section of heavy-duty cloth, then applied to the cap. Slight moth damage to the upper part of the eagle and the lower right-hand wing tip. To the interior, there is evidence of much wear and use; the wearer has had fitted either originally or after purchase a half-size in circumference inner sweatband just covering the forehead and half head area.

Ref; 94589

A nicely maker-marked and stamped size ‘55’ enlisted ranks issued side cap, which we believe has been field upgraded to officers' status. There is no moth damage to the cap, but various staining and serious loss of nap in the exposed areas. On turning down the side curtains, all the nap is present. Silver waffenfarbe has been added to the upper portion of the side curtain, with an 8cm length missing from the right-hand side rear area of the cap. The insignia is a very stressed enlisted ranks eagle, which is probably the original one when the cap was first issued. The wearer has then removed his Bevo skull and replaced it with a metallic skull, which has been sewn to the cap through the eye sockets. Both pins seem to be present, but one is adrift from the body of the skull. The other is present, when slightly pulling back to the skull the protected area beneath has all the nap of the cloth present, also with its white inverted, V waffenfarbe. A super rare service-worn cap. In the upper area of the cap where the envelope closes there are two tiny holes of rust stains around both on the interior and exterior, from many years of experience we have noticed that it was fashionable at the time for members of all services wearing overseas caps would place a safety pin at the closure of the envelope area for fashion purposes, this obviously has had one of those safety pins which has rusted and been collector removed.

Ref; 92964

A very nice condition service-worn enlisted ranks tropical overseas cap, constructed in a weight of material halfway between the lightweight smooth and the heavy ribbed.
